Love Kona's Sushi Only when Koji, The Japanese Sushi Master is there.
I know, I know, I am biased. I have followed Koji from NY where he had his own restaurant and following to this place.
Koji Makes the Best Sushi and other dishes. He needs to be with others of his caliber. Koji has been in movies with Drew Barrymore, Robert De Niro, and Kate Beckinsale. He has served sushi for Al Roker, The Rockefellers in NY, and worked with Morimoto from Iron Chef USA. I do not feel Kona knows the jewel they have in their Sushi Master, Koji.
IF Kona would allow Koji some creativity here then this place would be smoking hot and not just mediocre!
I think Kona should also put Sushi somewhere in the name too like: Kona Grill and Sushi Bar or something so when you drive by looking for something to eat while in City Place SUSHI would pop out at you and you would not be left guessing what Kona Grill is.
Koji rocks Kona Grill! It's a shame they don't know how good he is!

My wife and I decided to try Kona Grill at the recommendation of my father (who raved over the Miso-Sake marinated Sea Bass - Baked and served with shrimp & pork fried rice and wok-tossed vegetables)
The first bite popped just because I was overly hyped on trying this dish. As I got into the second and third bites, my taste buds raised flags. It turns out that Miso-Sake marinade is somewhat sweet...kind of like a honey taste (contains brown sugar); I'm not a sweet-fish liking type of guy. The Sea Bass itself has more of a slimy texture and doesn't flake like typical fish that many are used to (mahi-mahi, wahoo, tilapia, etc.). Needless to say, I was highly disappointed. The accompanying pork fried rice and wok tossed veggies were fine though (I love pf rice).
My wife chose the Chef salad that was supposed to be based in Mixed greens (so says the menu). She was highly disappointed that the salad appeared in front of her with field greens (looked like daffodil weeds - she can't stand field greens).
It seems that the menu lacks in its entree descriptions.
And now for the plus side.
The clam chowder laced with bacon was decent. The waiter recommended chicken and vegetable potstickers were awesome. My wife also enjoyed the California Roll sushi.
Our server was very accomodating, nice ambiance, cool aquarium. Although the service was fine, unfortunately the main course was not. This turned out to be an $80 mistake. I won't be returning because I'm leery at what some of the other dishes may taste like.
Like I said, Kona Grill is not for everyone.
