Chiropractic Adjustments
E xercises and stretches, chiropractic adjustments, and medical braces are a few options considered when trying to correct a problem.
Nutritional Consultation
At Kelly Chiropractic, P.A., Dr. Gwen will help you learn about chiropractic, your health, and things you can do to improve and maintain your health. She does a complete history and exam in order to find the proper diagnosis. Treatment usually includes a chiropractic adjustment. These adjustments are gentle and non-invasive. There are, however, adjustment techniques that are even more gentle and can be used for infants, pregnant women, and osteoporotic patients. Treatment may also include modalities such as: heat, ice, interferential muscle stimulation, biphasic muscle stimulation, microcurrent, high volt muscle stimulation, Russian muscle stimulation, soft tissue massage, friction massage, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, PI stretching, RI stretching, myofascial release, lymph drainage, trigger point therapy (TPT), mobilization, strength and aerobic exercise, and neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) re-education.

Subluxation
One of the primary sources of back pain is chiropractic subluxation complexes. A chiropractic subluxation is the malposition of and/or abnormal function of a motion segment (a joint, surrounding bone, muscles, nerves, blood vessles, and other tissues). The nervous system, muscles, organs, and other systems of the body can be affected with a chiropractic subluxation complex is present. The following is what the Association of Chiropractic Colleges has to say in it's Position Paper #1 concerning chiropractic and the treatment of subluxations
Manipulation Therapy
Chiropractic manipulation has proven to be helpful in reducing the amount of time a baby spends crying. Subluxations have an impact on the nervous system and can cause the child to be uncomfortable or irritable. You can also ask your Chiropractor about nutritional solutions. Many babies have slight food sensitivities to certain foods, either eaten directly or received through the mother’s breast milk. Dairy products tend to be a common problem, although any food could be the culprit. Chiropractic care can be extremely beneficial to a baby with colic.

Acupressure
As with Colic, acupressure can also be helpful especially when used along with chiropractic care. Acupuncture can be used on children, but a lot of times it is easier to use acupressure. Acupressure does not require us to keep the child somewhat still, and is often as effective as using needles. Dr. Gwen can follow your child around while they are playing and work on the points that can be helpful.

Dr. Gwendolyn E. Kelly-Kohnke is a Doctor of Chiropractic (D. C.) and has a B.S. in Human Biology, both from Northwestern College of Chiropractic (NWCC), Bloomington, MN. She took Acupuncture at the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MCAOM), Bloomington, MN, and is certified to practice Acupuncture by the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners (MBCE). NWCC and MCAOM are both a part of Northwestern Health Sciences University. She also has a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN, where she majored in Psychology. Dr. Kelly-Kohnke is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner®. She is CPR/AED certified and Safe Sport trained.
