Child Support
In Ohio biological parents are obligated by law to provide for their children whether they are married or not. Absent a court order to the contrary, the mother of the child is deemed to be the residential parent and sole legal custodian. Therefore the father, as the non-custodial parent, is frequently obligated to pay child support. The amount is set by a statutory formula, but what goes into the formula and how it is interpreted can be less clear.
Child Custody and Visitation
Child custody in Ohio is a complex process. The first step in determining how to proceed in establishing custody is identifying whether the parents of the child were married at the time of the birth of the child.
Adoption
Paternity
For a child born to an unmarried woman, the mother is the sole legal custodian and residential parent of the child until a court issues an order that grants legal rights to the father. To protect his rights, a father must file an application for the determination of parental rights and responsibilities. Simply establishing paternity does not automatically guarantee the rights of a father as it relates to the child.
Premarital Agreement
Guardianship
Spousal Support
Established in 2001 as Hunt & Cook, LLC, the W. H. Hunt Legal Group, LLC specializes in various forms of civil litigation; including trial, appellate and administrative practice and in mediation of general business and family law disputes. Our family law practice includes resolution of divorces, dissolutions, custody, child and spousal support, parenting allocation through mediation as well as litigation, collaborative law and parenting coordination. We serve Cuyahoga and Lorain counties in these matters regularly.
Legal Separation
Legal separation. In each a court proceeding is involved which voids your marriage (annulment), terminates your marriage (divorce or dissolution) or legally allocates your parental rights, divides your assets and liabilities and specifies support from one spouse to the other, if appropriate without terminating the legal marriage relationship (legal separation).
Juvenile law is a specialized sub set of the legal system and encompasses a wide range of issues including custody, paternity, child support and minors accused of criminal conduct or traffic violations. The over arching goal of all resolutions in the juvenile justice system is the protection of the best interest of the minor child.
In an effort to more completely serve our business clients our collaborative law practice has been extended into business law. This means individuals who wish to avoid litigation can bring their case to a resolution through a constructive dispute resolution process. Contact a collaborative business law lawyer at the law firm of Hunt Legal Group to discuss your situation with a qualified collaborative law attorney.
