Cakes By Kim

I ordered my daughter's birthday cake from here. I sent a picture of what I wanted and it was pretty close. The cake was a 1/2 sheet and was yellow cake with butter cream icing and raspberry filling. It was delicious. For that I would rate them higher, however my experience wasn't as great. I wanted a different icing and they talked me into the one I got. When I arrived to pick up my cake, the cashier told me that they were putting the finishing touches on my cake. It turns out, the decorating hadn't even been started. It only had the white icing. So the girl rushed it knowing that I was waiting. That left the sides plain white and it was put in the box so I didn't notice until I got home. They used navy blue icing when I asked for bright blue when I ordered the cake. I was in a hurry so too late at that point. I wanted to purchase a "2" and a "1" candle when I ordered the cake but the lady told me I should do it when I pick the cake up. (lazy?) Anyway, they were out of the blue number that I needed when I picked it up so I wish I didn't listen to her. The price was about $179. Advice, if you are going to order from there, be specific in color and kind of icing that you want. I'm not sure if they were trying to cut costs when they talked me out of the icing but I did see an empty product case that only had a few things in it. 4 stars for delicious cake, minus 1 for service.

My fiancé and I were having a small service and I asked him if he would like a small wedding cake. He immediately said he wanted to go to Cakes by Kim. Several of the women he works with have brought in items from Kim's bakery and everything has been fantastic. I called Kim and set up a tasting for that week. Kim was great to work with. Even though we were only ordering a small 2 tier cake she treated us like was were ordering a cake for over 100 guests. She talked to us about what we liked and our budget and we found the perfect cake. She even recommended having the florist send over some flowers so she could work them into our design. At the last minute there was an issue with us picking up the cake as planned - Kim's team was wonderful. They had no problem delivering with less than 48 hours’ notice on a holiday weekend without a ridiculous up charge! The best part? The cake was beautiful AND tasty!!!

My husband and I used Cakes by Kim for our wedding last year. At the start of our journey with Cakes by Kim was a bit rocky. We had trouble getting a hold of them to finalize the design and actually pay for our cake. We ordered a simple two tier round cake with beautiful LIGHT/BRIGHT GREEN Calla Lilies on top and cascading down the side. Unfortunately none of our wedding guests got to see it, our cake was NEVER delivered to our wedding! Before our ceremony started our caterers consistently called the bakery, not once did anyone pick up the phone. We received a call from Kim the next day apologizing, yet she didn't even have an answer for why our cake was never delivered..she even admitted that our cake WAS MADE! As a business owner I don't know how you miss that one. We got our refund and our cake was delivered a week later, and it was beautiful and everything we had wanted. Kim and I had come to an agreement that we would receive our cake again on our 1 year anniversary.

I never wrote a review this time last year in hopes to them redeeming themselves for our anniversary this year. I am writing a review now because they did NOT redeem themselves.

I had emailed Kim a few weeks prior to our anniversary to make sure our agreement still stood and informed her that we were planning a nice party for all of our friends and family since no one got to see our cake the year before. I even emailed her multiple pictures of our cake from the year before as reference. The day of our anniversary, when we finally saw our cake we were horrified! The cake looked like a kid had done the icing and flowers, needless to say there were half as many flowers and they looked like a far cry from a Calla Lily!! The flowers were a disgusting DARK GREEN/BROWN!! We were totally embarrassed to present this cake to our guests! You would think that they would go above and beyond...they didn't. When we finally talked to Kim she had no clue as to why we would be upset, barely apologizing! It is truly a shame that this is the way that Cakes by Kim chooses to conduct business!! DON'T USE!

I had my son's birthday cake made by Cakes by Kim. It was exceptional. I had it stacked and colored and the decorations were unbelievable! The taste of the cake was fantastic. I was more then pleased with this bakery. I cannot wait for the next cake i get to order!!
