I’m writing to let people know what to expect...
I recently adopted my dog from here. The people who work here are kind and polite. The cages are semi decent. However, once I was finally able to take my sweet boy home he was covered in filth. Had poo stuck all over him, multiple flea bites, and blood from his neuter on his body.
He had a little cough and no appetite the first 3 days home, so I took him into my vet. Turns out this little guy was really sick with parasites and what we thought was a bad cold. He had a fever that wouldn’t break and was loosing weight quickly.
After trying to work with Animal Control to make him better (which was a struggle!!) I decided to just seek full medical care from my vet. $700 and two different vet opinions later, we finally have him diagnosed and feeling better from doggie pneumonia. He’s on multiple prescriptions and can’t exercise for 30 days+ due to the bed rest he is on. He actually may never be able to enjoy long walks or play at a doggie park. I’m not saying this is Animal Controls fault but he was sick before I brought him home.
All I am saying is, realize you are truly rescuing these pets and that they could be very ill. It will be expensive and emotional to help them recover.
God Bless and good luck finding a new family member.

we adopted the sweetest dog from animal control .His name is Frisky he was taken care of had all his shots and they put a chip in him .He is a great little dog .My husband said the place where the animals are kept is clean and all dogs looked good. He said the staff was very friendly and very kind to the animals . I just want to thank everyone there for taking care of the dogs and for our new family addition he came with the name Frisky and he living up to the name he is friendly good with our other dog and very gentle with our 20 month old twin grand children, I encourage everyone to look there foe a pet first

I have no idea what these people are talking about. This shelter held onto my dog for nearly 6 months before I adopted her! (She has issues..) They did everything they could for her. She was a great find and I was treated very well. Ive gone back several times and been treated great each visit. I saw a woman from the shelter out in town and she even remembered my dog's name after 2 YEARS! They do their best in a tough business. The slime who don't neuter and keep their pets properly are the problem. Not these folks.

I found nothing but helpful people. They are up against such amazing odds, it is the public that is to blame for such a pet population problem. It is sad to see so many sweet animals surrendered for so many poor reasons. They inconvenience us, surrender... they scratch the couch.. surrender. I pray for humanity, because we are not taking care of our animals or the services provided to help them find homes. Get out of your own head and cut the s**t and get involved in whatever way you can. $5 donation, great! Don't have space for an animal? Take time and make steps to improve your life. Quit smoking/drinking and set aside some of your beer and bullet money to actually help positive change. #endrant

They do not even deserve one star!!!
My sister-in-law brought my nieces and nephew to pick up their new kitty today....and the children left sobbing without their promised kittty!!! HEART BROKEN!!! They went last week and fell in love with who would be named Sasha. They were told that she would be spayed and get her shots and to come back Tuesday so she could go to her forever home. The family went out and purchased so much for her and were so excited to pick her up....when they got there today they were told they gave the cat to someone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tried to say that they picked a different cat!! They even had a picture of the one that they picked last week. My sister-in-law was treated like she was crazy. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN???? At the VERY least apologize and admit the mistake!!! The kids (and parents) are devastated!!! Poor babies left heartbroken and crying!!! I am so saddened by this...and disgusted!!!!

THIS IS AN INSTANT KILL SHELTER, DO NOT LEAVE ANIMALS HERE!
My wife and I found two stray puppies on the road and we picked up to find a home. They were sweet and friendly and we thought the would find homes quickly. After about two weeks of trying to find homes for them, we couldn't keep them anymore considering we already had 3 labs and 3 cats. So we decided to take them to the animal shelter thinking they would get more exposure through their website and people visiting the shelter. We left them there along with a donation thinking that in a few days they would be adopted. My wife kept checking on their progress for adoption, and after about 5 days, she was told that they were put down, due to the lack of interest......AFTER JUST FIVE DAYS!! and four of those days they were put on hold in the back in case the owners would recover them. My wife and I were devastated. This will be the last time I step foot or provide any kind of money to these people. These were very good dogs and would have made a family very happy. Now I know that there are other options such as the ASPCA and Humane Society of polk county that are not kill shelters. Lesson Learned I guess, but at a high price.

My husband and I just left the animal control shelter. We had every intention of getting a dog. We were looking for a little while, and we were waiting for somebody to come and get the dog out that we wanted to see. Our hands were on the cage. When somebody walked in they told us that we were to close to the cage and needed to back off. That if the dog would to bite us then it would be our fault. Completely understandable. But then we stayed close to the cage, and were not touching the cage and she asked us to leave. Really? Thanks go a head and put that dog and every other dog in there to sleep cause there is no way with people like that working in there are people going to be able to adopt a pet. I guess we'll have to look else where.

I was rescently attacked by a dog and trying to get records of the incident is more painful then the bites.

The shelter is very clean and the animals are cared for and loved here, but would very much appreciate a loving home of their own. Their prices are very economical and resonable. They ensure the pets they have for adoption are not aggressive. Please take the time to browse and hopefully bring home a new friend.
