Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
Dr. Jason Bacharach was the first doctor in the Western United States to implant the Glaukos iStent, the first micro-invasive glaucoma surgical device, i.e., MIGS, to treat intraocular pressure. It is currently the smallest medical device ever cleared for use in the U.S. by the FDA.
Ophthalmology
Ophthalmology training covers the entire spectrum of eye care. Ophthalmologists are trained to do thorough eye exams to prescribe glasses or contact lenses, offer medical treatment for assorted eye problems, and do complex and delicate eye surgeries for qualified candidates. Laser Eye Surgery
If you have ever undergone eye surgery, a trained ophthalmologist has done the work. Ophthalmology focuses on treating diseases and conditions that affect the anatomy and physiology of the eye. What this means is that an ophthalmologist takes care of both surgical procedures and medical care for the eye. They are specialists in dealing with multiple eye diseases and conditions.
Cataracts
In addition to treating the cataract, some IOLs can also correct astigmatism at the time of surgery. These lenses will minimize the need for distance vision glasses after surgery. One such IOL that has gained widespread popularity is the Alcon® AcrySof® IQ Toric IOL (made specifically to address cataracts with astigmatism).
Cataract Surgery
Monofocal IOLs provide a set focal point, usually for distance vision. This allows cataract surgery patients to see clearly within a range. About 95 percent of people who receive a standard IOL have their vision restored to its pre-cataract state. However, most patients still require glasses for reading or distance vision. Monovision is a technique the surgeon may choose to perform that involves inserting an IOL in one eye for near vision and an IOL in the other eye for distance vision. This technique requires adaptation, since each eye will then be oriented towards different needs.
Eye Exam
During an eye exam, our providers will ask you questions about any symptoms or issues you are experiencing, medications you are currently taking, blurry vision, your work environment, and overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be discussed during this part of the examination. Providers here at North Bay Eye Associates will consider this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.

Reconstructive Surgery
With this specialty, the focus is on reconstructive surgery in facial and orbital areas. It can include complex surgeries on eyelids, orbits, certain facial bones, and the lacrimal system. Our Ocular Plastics Ophthalmologist, Rona Silkiss specializes in ophthalmic plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, lacrimal surgery and orbital surgery.
