Has he been eating and drinking normally? Has he been vomiting? Have you seen him playing with something that is now torn apart? Dogs usually act like that when they have an upset stomach. He might have ingested something he wasn't supposed to. Has he been in the trash? Have you used any deodorant sprays or fabric sprays pr carpet fresheners? Maybe that got sprayed into his water bowl.
